Clash Plus supports Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, making it easier to keep the same workflow across desktop and mobile. For first-time Clash users, reducing differences between clients matters more than piling on advanced settings: importing a subscription, switching proxy groups, and enabling the system proxy or VPN should all be easy to find.

If Linux is your main platform, compare Clash Verge Rev with FlClash first. On Android, users who need direct control over the Meta core, DNS, TUN, and rule behavior should also consider Clash Meta for Android. Clash for Windows and ClashX Meta are no longer maintained, so they are better treated as references for migrating old configurations than as defaults for a new installation.

Alongside subscriptions and proxy groups, it provides more direct access to the mihomo core, TUN mode, configuration overrides, rules, and logs. When a domain is routed incorrectly, you can trace the issue through rule matching, proxy-group selection, DNS resolution, and connection logs instead of repeatedly switching nodes.

That transparency also means more settings. Changing TUN, DNS, mixed ports, and override configurations at the same time makes it difficult to identify what caused a change. A safer approach is to establish a connection with the defaults first, then adjust one module at a time. Linux desktop users often compare it with FlClash; users who prefer detailed desktop controls and are willing to understand configuration structure are most likely to benefit from it.

FlClash is distinguished by its coverage across desktop platforms and Android. When a work computer, personal computer, and Android phone run different systems, choosing one client family can reduce the learning curve. The concepts of subscriptions, policies, connections, and basic settings carry over, making it suitable for users who switch between operating systems often but do not require the same interface on iOS.

The choice between FlClash and Clash Plus should depend on your device mix, not simply on the number of settings. If iOS matters, Clash Plus offers the more complete platform path; if Linux and Android are your main platforms, FlClash becomes a stronger candidate. After installation, verify system proxy or VPN permissions first, then confirm that the configuration loaded correctly. Enable complex rules, DNS overrides, and TUN settings one at a time to avoid changing multiple network layers at once.

Compared with Clash Verge Rev, the decision usually comes down to workflow preferences, the layout of settings, and how configuration management feels.

If your goal is simply to import one subscription and connect, Clash Plus offers a more direct path. If you frequently switch between configurations, inspect logs, tune rules, or compare desktop workflows, Nyanpasu is worth considering. Do not enable every advanced option just because the interface exposes more controls. Confirm that the basic proxy works first, then decide whether to use TUN, overrides, or more complex DNS settings; troubleshooting will be much clearer.

Windows

Clash for Windows established a widely used desktop workflow, and many older tutorials built around it refer to Profiles, Proxies, Rules, Connections, and Logs. Its interface structure is therefore still valuable when maintaining an old computer or taking over a legacy configuration. Familiar concepts such as rule modes, proxy groups, and system proxies can also make it easier to migrate to a newer mihomo client.

It is no longer maintained and should not be the long-term default for a new setup. During migration, do not copy only the application folder. Save the original subscription URL, required local configuration, rule overrides, and custom ports, then rebuild them in the new client one by one. If the old setup depends on original Clash behavior, check how the new core handles DNS, rule sets, and scripts. For most users, starting with a maintained client is more efficient.

Clash Meta for Android

Android

Clash Meta for Android is suited to users who want direct control over Meta core behavior on a phone. Beyond subscriptions and policy switching, it covers VPN permissions, TUN routing, per-app proxying, DNS, Fake-IP, background operation, and battery settings. This direct configuration model is useful when you need to determine whether an app is being proxied, why a domain rule did not match, or how DNS resolution is routed.

The trade-off is a steeper learning curve than clients focused on everyday connections. Android manufacturers also impose background restrictions, so correct client settings do not guarantee that the system will allow a persistent connection. Establish the basic VPN connection first, then handle battery optimization and background permissions, and only afterward tune DNS or per-app routing. If you only need to import and connect, Clash Plus is easier to start with; choose CMFA when you need fine-grained control.

Surfboard

Android

Surfboard is an independent Android proxy client for users who already have a compatible configuration source, rule workflow, or migration need. It handles common proxy configurations and rule workflows, but similar names or syntax do not mean that every Clash- or mihomo-specific field will work unchanged. Before importing a complex configuration, confirm that its proxy groups, rule types, and DNS fields are supported by the client.

It is best viewed as a focused Android branch rather than a unified desktop-and-mobile solution. For Android-only use with an adapted configuration, Surfboard can provide a simple mobile workflow. When Windows, macOS, or iOS integration matters, Clash Plus or FlClash is more likely to provide a consistent path. When switching clients, test a basic subscription first, then add custom rules gradually so syntax compatibility issues are not mistaken for node problems.

ClashX Meta

ClashX Meta retains the lightweight workflow of a macOS menu bar client, and longtime users are usually familiar with switching modes, policies, and the system proxy from the status bar. It followed the Meta core route and once suited macOS users who wanted the interface to stay mostly in the menu bar while gaining newer core capabilities. If this setup remains on an existing device, record the subscription, ports, DNS, and system proxy settings before planning a migration.

Because the project is no longer maintained, new installations should prioritize Clash Plus, Clash Verge Rev, or FlClash. After moving to a new client, reconfirm macOS network extension, system proxy, or TUN permissions; do not rely only on the connection toggle inside the client. Choose the installer that matches the device architecture, whether Apple Silicon or Intel. Familiar habits can be retained, but long-term use should rely on a maintained client and core.

Clash Meta

This route extends the original configuration model with broader protocol, DNS, and rule capabilities. The names Clash Meta for Android and ClashX Meta directly reflect that lineage. When choosing, still distinguish whether the client is actively maintained and account for differences in mobile and desktop system integration.

MIHOMO

mihomo

mihomo is a common continuation of this line, and clients such as Clash Verge Rev expose TUN, rule sets, DNS, and override controls around it. More complete functionality does not mean everything must be enabled; a minimal configuration is usually easier to troubleshoot than a copied complex template.
